Fractional controller for mission-driven organizations

Steady finances for the people doing good in the world.

Clear finances. Stronger controls. Confident compliance.

Hi, I'm Charles. I care about the positive change nonprofits bring to our communities, and I know how much more good they can do when the books are in order. I help nonprofits, human service agencies and affordable housing organizations strengthen their accounting and get ready for audits with confidence, so your team can stay focused on the community you serve.

Sound familiar?

Finance problems rarely stay in the finance office.

A late close slows down decisions. Thin documentation turns audit season into a scramble. A vacancy leaves important work with no clear owner. Meanwhile the program work still has to get done.

I'm here to take some of that weight off. I'll help you see what's really going on, get the work organized, and build processes that keep working after I step back. Your finance team will feel the difference.

  • Month-end close is slow, inconsistent, or lives in one person's head.
  • The board isn't getting timely reports it can actually use.
  • The audit or UFR eats staff time and still brings surprises.
  • Reconciliations, schedules and controls haven't kept up with growth.
  • Grant, restricted-fund, or HUD reporting keeps creating pressure.
  • A finance transition left critical work without an owner.

Every problem has a solution. I want organizations to spend less time feeling overwhelmed by their finances and more time feeling confident about their future. I bring positivity, curiosity, and practical financial experience to help make that happen.

Pan-Mass Challenge finish security lead I volunteer as the security lead at the Provincetown Monument finish of the Pan-Mass Challenge, the bike-a-thon that raises money for cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. My job is keeping riders, and the families cheering them on, safe as they cross the finish line. It's a great reminder of what a community can do when everyone pitches in.

About

A positive force for your finance team

I've always been drawn to organizations that make a real difference in their communities. I spent my audit career at AAFCPAs serving those organizations, working my way up from Staff Auditor to Audit Supervisor. I learned how auditors think and what makes financial statements hold up. I also saw how much strain audit season puts on small finance teams who are already giving everything they have.

In 2023, my colleagues nominated me for AAFCPAs' Michael Oliveira Kindness Award, and I was honored to receive it. The Peer-Nominated 2023 Kindness Award recognizes warmth, positivity and support for coworkers and clients alike.

Now I work alongside the organizations I used to audit, as a dependable partner rather than an outside reviewer. I'm a Nichols College alum based in Worcester, Massachusetts. I bring a creative problem-solver's curiosity to the work.

I believe strong accounting should do more than satisfy compliance requirements. It should give leaders reliable information, ease the stress on finance teams, and let organizations stay focused on their mission.

How I work

  • Listen first. Every organization's mission, people and history are different.
  • Start with the immediate pressure, then fix the process underneath it.
  • Communicate clearly with accounting staff, leadership, auditors and boards.
  • Leave behind organized schedules, documentation and repeatable processes.
  • Size recommendations to your real staffing, systems and risk.
